Abu Zar propagated the love for Ahlul Bayt (A.S.) in Jebel Amil (South Lebanon)

Reliable biographers have narrated that Abu Zar went to Syria duringthe time of Umar and he stayed there till the time of Uthman. When helearnt of the corruption of Uthman’s rule, especially theill-treatment of Ammar, he began to denounce the third Caliph openlyand talk about his high-handedness. When Abu Zar witnessed the injustice of Muawiyah he used to condemnhim and encourage people to love and devotion of Imam Ali (a.s.). Heused to narrate the excellence of Ali (a.s.) and he had inclined manypeople to Shiaism.
It is famous that it is according to the efforts ofAbu Zar that we find some Shias in Syria and Jebel Amil. Muawiyah complained about him to Uthman and said that if Abu Zarstayed there for some more time he would mislead the people fromUthman. Uthman replied: “When you receive my letter, you should makeAbu Zar sit on a fast camel and send him with a nasty driver. Heshould make the camel run continuously till he reaches Medina. Abu Zarshould not be able to sleep, so that he may forget us and he mayremain restless for sleep.” When Muawiyah received this letter, he called Abu Zar and mounted himon the bare back of a refractory camel and handed him to a nastydriver to take him to Medina. Abu Zar was tall but very thin. At thattime he had aged and his hair had turned grey. So the driver continuedto drive the camel fast.
There was no saddle or litter upon it,therefore Abu Zar’s thighs were injured. So much so that his fleshbroke away. It was in such a condition that he reached Medina. When peoplebrought him to Uthman he said: “May no one be pleased to see you OJundab.”
Abu Zar said: “My father had named me Jundab, but theMessenger of Allah (S) had called me Abdullah.”
Uthman said: “Youclaim to be a Muslim and allege that we say that the Almighty Allah ispoor and we are wealthy? When did I claim thus?”
Abu Zar said: “I never issued such a statement, but I witness that Iheard the Messenger of Allah (S) that when the descendants of Abil Aasreach upto thirty, they would use the funds of the Almighty Allah toobtain power and consider the people as their servants and practicedishonesty in the religion of Allah. After that the Almighty Allahwill save the people from their clutches.
And Ali Ibn Ibrahim hasmentioned in his Tafsir: “And when We made a covenant with you: You shall not shed your bloodand you shall not turn your people out of your cities; then you gave apromise while you witnessed. Yet you it is who slay your people andturn a party from among you out of their homes, backing each other upagainst them unlawfully and exceeding the limits; and if they shouldcome to you, as captives you would ransom them- while their veryturning out was unlawful for you. Do you then believe in a part of theBook and disbelieve in the other? What then is the reward of suchamong you as do this but disgrace in the life of this world, and onthe day of resurrection they shall be sent back to the most grievouschastisement, and Allah is not at all heedless of what you do.”[3]
