The Timeless Wisdom of the Holy Qur'an
Compiled By: Syed Ali Shahbaz
We present you glimpses of the timeless wisdom of the holy Qur'an, regarding which God Himself has said in ayah 166 of Surah Nisa: “...Allah bears witness to what He has sent down to you —He sent it down with His knowledge— and the angels bear witness [too], and Allah quite suffices as the Witness.â€
The Almighty Creator, Who is nearer to us than our own jugular vein, has presented to us His Immaculate Attributes through His final revelation to mankind, the holy Qur'an. When we open the Heavenly Scripture, the first ayah starts with the Name of the Most High and His attributes of The All-Merciful and The All-Compassionate. It is God Alone Whose Attributes are free of any defect. He is the Creator Whose
Blessings are infinite and engulf all creatures, including those who have drifted into disbelief, despite the fact that life, air, sunshine, water, food, feelings of pleasure, and even their own intellect and power of speech, are the gifts of the All-Merciful Creator. These are only examples of the divine blessings in transient life, and for the virtuous He has promised rewards of eternal bliss in afterlife that are beyond our comprehension. He is the Creator, the Owner and the Real Ruler of the world of creation, as is evident by the following ayah of the holy Qur'an “To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and Allah has power over all things.â€
Everything in this universe is a manifestation of the rule and Omnipresence of God. Cognizance of the Attributes of God helps us to strive towards perfection on the basis of virtue by abstention from sins. In the holy Quran, God considers the wonderful system of the world as a witness to His existence and provides proofs by stimulating the human mind. In ayah 10 of Surah Ibrahim, God says: “Is there any doubt about Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth?!â€
And in ayah 35 of Surah Tur, He says: “Or were they created without there being anything, or are they creators?â€
The ayahs of the holy Qur'an refer to the stages the embryo goes through towards perfection and birth as a human being endowed with all faculties. They also refer to the wondrous creation of the earth, cycle of the changing seasons, the orderly transformation of nights into days and vice-versa, the rivers, the seas, the rainfall, the growth of plants, the flowers, the fruits and the grains that are necessary for both human and animal life. These are all firm proofs of the Supreme Power controlling everything.
According to exegetes there are some 750 ayahs speaking about the wonders of creation. Knowledge has been bestowed by God, as acknowledged by conscious scholars, philosophers and scientists. The gift of knowledge is the means of proper cognizance of God since it is the intellect that invites human being to ponder and reflect in order to strengthen belief. As the Qur'an says, God is everything; He is the First and the Last, the Eternal and the Omnipresent, Who is far glorious from the characteristics of His creatures, like need for food, drinks, sleep, comforts, wife, children etc. He is aware of everything including the thoughts that flash across the minds of the creatures. Hence it is He alone Who deserves to be worshipped.
Ayahs 22 to 24 of Surah Hashr say: “He is Allah—there is no god except Him— Knower of the sensible and the Unseen, He is the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful.â€
“He is Allah—there is no god except Him— the Sovereign, the All-Holy, the All-Benign, the Securer, the All-Conserver, the All-Mighty, the All-Compeller, the All-Magnanimous. Clear is Allah of any partners that they may ascribe [to Him]!â€
“He is Allah, the Creator, the Maker, the Designer. To Him belong the Best Names. Whatever there is in the heavens glorifies Him and [whatever there is in] the earth, and He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.â€
These ayahs are manifestations of the glories of God Almighty which invite us to ponder and realize our own defects before Divine Power, on which all the universe is dependent. As a matter of fact these Divine Attributes are the source of succor for human beings and the firm fortresses in which we seek refuge and feel secure.
