The Dignity of Guests

The Holy Prophet, peace be on him and his progeny, says: “A guest is a guide who leads to the path of Paradise”. (Biharul Anwar, vol.XV, p.242)

“When Allah wishes to do good to a family he sends it gift to it. That gift is a guset who comes with his sustenance and carries away`` the sins of the family with himself”.
That gift is a guest who comes with his sustenance and carries away the sins of the family with himself”. (Biharul Anwar, vol.XV, p.241)

Imam Ali, peace be on him, says: “On the Day of Judgement a hospitable believer will arise from his grave in such a condition that his face will be shining like the disc of the moon. The people will wonder and think within themselves as to whether he is a Prophet. However, the angel accompanying him will introduce him and say`: “He is the man who was hospitable and entertained hid guests and th`us he has no way other than that of entering Paradise”. (Biharul Anwar, vol.XV, p.242)

Imam Ja’far Sadiq, peace be on him, says: “If a brother-in-faith of yours arrives at your place serve him whatever is available. Howvever, if you invite him to meals entertain him properly”. (Biharul Anwar, vol.XV, p.240)

The Holy Prophet, peace be on him and his progeny, says: “The host should begin eating first and should finish it last of all so that the guests may eat with complete freedom and get satiated”. (Biharul Anwar, vol.XV, p.240)

The Holy Prophet, peace be on him and his progeny, says: “One of the rights of the guest on the host is that he should escort him from the room to the gate of the house”. (Biharul Anwar, vol.XV, p.240)

The Holy Prophet, peace be on him and his progeny, says: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Day of Judgement honours the guest. Entertainment is for three days only and thereafter it amounts for alms”. (Biharul Anwar, vol.XV, p.242)

Imam Muhammed Baqir, peace be on him, says: “When one of you arrives at the house of a brother-in-faith he should sit at the place appointed by the owner of the house as he knows better the situation of the house and the parts of it which should not be made public”. (Biharul Anwar, vol.XV, p.240)
