The holy Qur'an is a great Book that if we ponder on its ayahs, veil will be pushed aside and facts revealed to us. Let us present you some more interesting facts this week on God's Revealed Words for the guidance of human societies for every era and every area of the world.
God has endowed mankind with the power of intellect and speech in order to distinguish good from bad, beneficial from harmful, virtue from vice, and truth from falsehood; and to express them through clarity of words for the benefit of others. This is indeed a divine blessing, and helps us to better understand the realities of life and the purpose of creation. In Surah Anbiya, ayah 10 God says: "Certainly We have sent down to you a Book in which there is an admonition for you. Do you not apply reason?"
We also read in ayah 3 of Surah Zukhruf: "We have presented it an Arabic Qurān so that you may apply reason"
The Almighty also says in ayah 125 of Surah Nahl: "Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good advice and dispute with them in a manner that is best"
Indeed, when we ponder and contemplate upon these ayahs, our minds will certainly be enlightened and we will be better able to develop the correct cognizance of our Loving Creator, who says in ayah 60 of Surah Qesas: "Whatever things you have been given are only the wares of the life of this world and its glitter, and what is with Allah is better and more lasting. Will you not apply reason?"
It is clear that God wants us to use the gift of the intellect that he has given us and which distinguishes human beings from other creatures, and which is the main factor of the superiority of mankind over all other forms of creation, provided we use it correctly. For instance in ayah 22 of Surah Anfaal, we read: "Indeed the worst of beasts in Allah’s sight are the deaf and the dumb who do not apply reason."
God calls on mankind to ponder on the signs in and around him, and in the world of nature, in order to firm up his faith and desist from deviation and the pursuit of evil, for definitely there is afterlife following death, and consequently reward and punishment. Thus, those who do not use the intellect and fail to apply reason are admonished by God. For instance we read in ayah 10 of Surah Molk, which is actually a conversation between the people of paradise and the people of hell, after the final judgement: "And they will say, ‘Had we listened or applied reason, we would not have been among inmates of the Blaze"
This ayah clearly explains to us that thinking and pondering is the main factor for finding the right path and gaining eternal bliss. From the viewpoint of the holy Qur'an, one of the reasons behind deviation is to follow the false and unreal ideas, because if one fails to see the realities, illusions will only bring doom upon him. The holy Qur'an is light, mercy and a cure for the ailments of the body, the soul, and the mind. For this reason the number of the ayahs which invite us to ponder, contemplate and reflect are numerous. The Late Iranian philosopher, Allamah Mohammad Taqi Ja'fari in one of his works has classified the ayahs of the Qur'an and their invitation to mankind to think and ponder, as well as their numbers on specific matters.
